5 Things No One Tells You When You Are Pregnant

I can’t believe that I am finally 8 months into my pregnancy!! The time has really flown by. (Luckily, this time around has been much easier to handle than my first.) Thank God!!

I suppose it is true that every pregnancy is different, because it is like night and day between the two.

Anyways, looking back over these past 8 months, (in comparison to the lessons I learned from my pregnancy with my son) there are some underlying lessons between pregnancy 1 & 2.

I am not sure if the lessons I learned are helpful to other moms-to-be out there, but I thought I’d share the top 5 lessons I learned from my pregnancies, that no one else will tell you

1- You Are At The Mercy Of Your Body

From extreme swelling to morning sickness, if there is one thing I learned from my pregnancies is that $#!^ WILL HIT THE FAN and there is nothing I can do about it. I just need to keep trucking and remind myself that once the room wrecker has left the building, I will be grateful for his/her arrival.

2 – Almond Oil is Your Best Friend

When I was pregnant with my son, I read Bringing Up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman, and the one thing I remember the most about that book was how French women SWEAR by almond oil to prevent stretch marks. I have to say, two pregnancies in the books—they are right. So far, the almond oil is totally working. “GET ON MY BELLY!”

3 – Roll With the Punches at Birth

The best decision I ever made when I was pregnant with my son was not to be prepared with a birth plan. I wanted to be emotionally equipped to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. This turned out to be a GREAT PLAN (to have no plan,) because they ended up doing an emergency c-section. All the books will be like PREPARE your birth plan! I mean… babies only come out two ways, am I right ? What’s to prepare?

4 – Parenting Is On the Job Training

All the books want you to have a road map for how you are going to raise and react to your child for the next eighteen years. I had a plan. But then, my son taught me within first couple of hours that he was born, that clearly, my plans were not going to work. There is no owner’s manual for children, because raising children is like performing improv–It’s more entertaining when it is off the cuff

5 – Listen To Your Body

Whether I’m hungry, tired, sleepy, sick, achey…I do what my body tells me to do. I eat when I am hungry. I stop when I’m not. I take it easy when I am feeling dizzy or tired. My body knows what it is doing, and I am just the assistant. It can be annoying and inconvenient for me and for others, but it’s telling me these things for a reason.

YOUR UTERUS, YOUR OPINION

Last but not least, these are just the lessons I’VE LEARNED, they are not the gospel of pregnancy. And you will find from the name of your child, to whether or not you plan on breast feeding, people seem to think they are entitled to share their opinions with you.

Just like my lessons above, you don’t have to listen. You have to do what works for you, your body, and your baby.

Best of luck to you little mamas!
